A WOMAN who police shot dead in a west Sydney Hungry Jack's car park had Asperger's syndrome.
The Sydney Morning Herald yesterday reported Courtney Topic's family was "struggling to cope" with her death.
On Tuesday morning police confronted Ms Topic after receiving numerous 000 calls from people who saw her with a large kitchen knife.
Police attempted to subdue her with capsicum spray and a taser before opening fire.
Meanwhile the Public Interest Advocacy Centre's Edward Santow is calling for a review of police training on the use of deadly force. "It's very important that police be trained to make sure that lethal response is the last possible response," Mr Santow told the ABC.
Police are investigating her death and the events in lead-up to the police officer firing.
The investigation will be overseen by the Professional Standards Command with all information to be forwarded to the coroner.
