Zaffis riding high to Sportsperson of the Month win
SENIOR SPORTSPERSON: AFTER overcoming injury, training hard and working on a new board shape, the pieces of the puzzle have been falling into place for Angourie surfer Chris Zaffis.
Zaffis has recorded some of his best performances in Australia, including a quarter-finals finish at the Tweed Coast Pro QS 1000 event last month.
His form had him sit as high as as fourth in the Oceania Qualifying Series bracket and in the top 50 of the World Surf League Qualifying Series.
Zaffis has claimed the Jetts Fitness Senior Sportsperson of the Month award for February.
"I'm really stoked to be carrying through some momentum in the Australian leg (of the World Surf League Qualifying Series)," he said.
"I've reached above round five each time, and I've always wanted to be more consistent in Australia, which I've struggled with in the past, but this year has been good."
Zaffis head to Indonesia next month where he will defend his Mentawai Pro title.
"I'm super keen to head back over there, it's one of my favourite places to surf," he said.
"I've got a title to defend, which is a new experience for me, so I'm a bit nervous about that, but as long as I relax I'll be able to get into the flow of things."
